Gmbh and the tribute of their collection to South Asia

Gmbh, a Berlin-based company created by Serhat Işk and Benjamin A. Huseby (recently named creative directors of Trussardi), selects Paris Fashion Week and a coed fashion show to unveil its first collection of clothing specifically for women’s fashion. The SS23 collection, which takes its name from a type of poetry that is frequently used in Islamic literature, is titled Ghazal. It is a fragmented and intimate homage to the beauty and culture of South Asia, the two designers’ native continent, where spirituality, protection, healing, freedom, and sex all come together.

Thus, evil eyes appear on the buttons, dresses and skirts resemble chic sarongs to be worn with soft-cut microtops, and jackets are minidresses worn with maxi boots. The combination of shorts and a shirt and tie is given a touch of glitz by maxi and imitation furs. Long dresses are see-through and feature deep slits.

Prints created with Indonesian artist Muhammad “Rofi” Fatchurofi, who lives and works in Java, and two significant collaborations—one with ASICS and one with Scholl—that pick up the thread of iconic comfort that distinguished clogs back in the 1970s and take them to the next aesthetic level—make the collection special. The prints were inspired by the transformative properties of water.
