Is Chanel’s Formula One T-shirt the latest trend?

Prepare to spend all of your credit card money if you want to wear it.

Following the Miu Miu set, Prada tank top, and Diesel belt as desirable items with prohibitive price tags, the Chanel Formula 1 T-shirt has emerged. It debuted at the fashion show at the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel alongside bodysuits modeled after racing suits and items with accents and patterns evoking racing aesthetics as a part of the maison’s 2023 resort collection. Virginie Viard profited from young girls’ recent interest in motorsport celebrities and their fashion choices.

Charlotte Casiraghi attended the 80th Formula One Grand Prix, which was held in the Principality of Monaco on Sunday, May 28. She donned Chanel’s F1 T-shirt, which has a print combining a racing car, a racetrack, and appliqués reminiscent of the French brand’s symbols, like camellias and the number 5, in line with the occasion. The T-shirt was worn by the princess with black skinny jeans, a handbag, and butterfly glasses that were also made by the French company for whom she has been a longtime spokesperson. Influencer Madeleine White wore a very similar model a few days ago, just like her. The outcome? The item became so well-known that some stores began to offer knockoffs as a result.

Along with gaining instant popularity, the T-shirt was the focus of a number of tweets and videos on TikTok, splitting people into those who were eager to add the new thing they wanted to their wardrobes and those who were astonished by the price. It seems that the graphic top will set you back between $4,500 and $5,500, while some filmmakers have made the case that given its scarcity, a resale might push the price as high as $10,000 or even higher. Needless to say, even without resorting to the possible fakes that are already starting to circulate, there are plenty of equally cool and interesting, but significantly cheaper, versions of t-shirts with prints available on the market. We are sure that in a short time Chanel’s tee will become sold-out, and those who will not be able to buy it because of the scarcity of available pieces or because of the price, will continue to desire it. Wearing it would give them not only a way to be aligned with the trend of the moment, but also the illusion of being a fashion princess, with a wardrobe so exclusive that it boasts a white T-shirt with a few thousand-dollar graphics. Just like Charlotte Casiraghi.
