The Gucci Women’s Fall Winter 2023 collection was unveiled as a modern evocation of the creative cultures that have characterized the House’s history, representing the ecosystem of designers and artisans that have transmitted and developed the House’s knowledge from creative to creative for more than a century. The fashion show was held in the center of the Maison, with lifts transporting the collection from floor to floor to the catwalk to demonstrate the development of each new design. The collection played with the sentiment of going back to a known realm and then finding it in new ways. It featured a bright color scheme typical of the first decade of this century but recalled the sensual and glamorous language typical of Gucci in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The silhouette includes basic shirts and top-and-skirt combos together with tailored clothing in maxi forms. Wool or leather dresses have expansive shoulders, necklines, and low-slung pants that give them an oversized appearance. Skirts come in long or knee-length styles, with delicate lace and translucent fabrics that make them look lingerie-like. The collection’s evening wear references heart silhouettes, a representation of the Maison’s soul, and its colored mask sunglasses make reference to one of Gucci’s iconic bottles, which filters the world in the Rush color. A horse’s head-adorned round trapeze chain bag with fresh iterations in cushioned, shearling, crystal, and contrasting leather are part of the collection. The Jackie bag is shown in its original shape but has been redesigned with a softer construction, in a two-tone version with GG embossed leather. While the snow boots, initially created for the 1960s ski collection, are repurposed, the traditional Gucci loafer is elevated on rubber soles. The collection is a manifestation of Gucci’s legendary creative fervor, which has always flowed through its veins.
